Exploring the conventions of poster design left a positive outlook as for the strategies for the representation of information in a concise and specific manner. This task aimed to gain an understanding as for the larger issues affecting our society, also known as a ‘Wicked Problem’.

My topic of focus centred around the pollution of plastics in our oceans, drastically affecting our sea life. Upon researching the issue, I wanted to communicate the large quantity of plastic that is aesthetically consumable to audiences when viewing my poster.

Along with the final poster design, we were to create objectified type within our original copy to effectively visualise the lasting impact our actions have on our wildlife. I had chosen to objectify the word ‘LAST’ within ‘PLASTIC’ to convey a sense of emergency as well as urgency to become actively involved in reducing plastic waste from being dumped into our ocean.

Each letter within the objectified type is representative of the top three items to be found floating in our shores being; cigarette butts, plastic bottles and candy wrappers. Each have their purpose and importance when communicating the overall message.

Poster design as well as creating copy turned out to be one of my highlights as a graphic designer as the issue discussed is extremely relevant and still holds great significance to our current social standpoint.
