Week 10 – Studio

This class we decided to gather inspiration for our proposed final website and took notes on what to incorporate and what not to incorporate within our project. Browsing online at other town websites we came across an element of colour and vibrancy that appealed to townspeople.

We wanted to be a bit more unique in terms of aesthetic and visualise our information in  simple and minimal manner that had all the basic knowledge needed in the form of images.

The research allowed for us to gather as much information needed to create a website that we would enjoy making and gave us satisfaction in creating. This allowed for absolute freedom, although we had to make this work.

Research included us looking at competitive sets and comparing them alongside each other to figure our just how we would like to represent our website as a community/tourist based website.

Some websites we decided to look at included;

As well as the research, we clarified we needed to create a logo for the town, as this will help with the branding solution as to how it will be shown on the website and ultimately act as a clickable link to the homepage from all pages within the site. The original website did not contain any logo for the town, and so we created one for our re-design.

Upon creating this logo, we struggled to incorporate and communicate the town in one image, so we included the graphic of an apple within the typography seeing as they hold their annual Apple Day festival each year. This conveys the town’s personality and community based events that generate fun and excitement for small families in rural towns.
